Workshop Speakers
1 .Miao-Fen Tseng
Professor and advocate in Chinese language education with extensive experience in K–16 teaching, teacher training, and program leadership. She has served as Director of the Institute of World Languages, Founder and President of the Chinese Language Teachers Association of Virginia (CLTA-VA), and consultant for AP Chinese, among many other national and international roles. Professor Tseng has published nearly 30 peer-reviewed articles and 17 books, delivered over 250 talks and workshops, and led multiple professional development initiatives. She has received numerous awards, including the STARTALK Award, Jefferson Trust Award, and Albert Nelson Marquis Who’s Who Lifetime Achievement Award. Her work focuses on technology-enhanced, task-based language teaching, global partnerships, and community-based experiential learning.

2.Fei Reed
Chinese teacher and advisor at Sidwell Friends School since 2002. She holds an M.A. in Teaching Chinese as a Foreign Language from Middlebury College and a B.A. in English Language and Literature from Central China Normal University. Fei has also taught at George Washington University and contributed to online language learning projects. Beyond teaching, she has led cultural exchange trips to China, served in leadership and mentoring roles, and presented at national conferences such as ACTFL, CLTA, and NCLC.

1.Yu-Wen Yao
Lecturer of Chinese, University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA).
She received her M.A. in Teaching Chinese as a Second Language from National Taiwan Normal University. Professor Yao has taught at several universities and Chinese language centers in Taiwan, and from 2000 to 2019, she taught at the Middlebury College Chinese Summer School. She is co-author and chief editor of Chinese Grammar Made Easy and co-author of the Grammar in Action series.

2.Kaidi Chen
Lecturer in Chinese, Department of East Asian Languages and Cultures, Columbia University.
He received his Ph.D. from the University of Connecticut. His research focuses on speech science, psycholinguistics, sociolinguistics, bilingualism, and language pedagogy. Dr. Chen has extensive teaching experience and applies experimental and computational methods to Chinese language education.

3.Su-Ling Huang
Chinese language educator and program leader with over 18 years of experience in K–12 and higher education. She is currently Middle School Community Engagement and Global Learning Coordinator at Packer Collegiate Institute in New York City, where she designs interdisciplinary programs integrating language, identity, and sustainability. In 2025–2026, she will serve as a Fulbright EMI Advisor in Taiwan to support bilingual education and teacher development.

4. Jia-Jia Wang
Chinese instructor at the University of Pennsylvania, holding a Ph.D. from the University of Pennsylvania. She previously served as Project Director for the Middlebury College Kunming Program and Visiting Assistant Professor at Swarthmore College. Dr. Wang has over 20 years of teaching experience, with research interests in content-based language instruction, language proficiency assessment, intercultural communication, and metacognition in language teaching.

5. Ying Jin
Chinese teacher at Cupertino High School in Silicon Valley with over 20 years of teaching experience. She participates in the Stanford World Language Project for teacher training and integrates the UN Sustainable Development Goals into her classroom to foster global citizenship. Ying has received multiple awards, including the ACTFL Teacher of the Year (2018) and SWCOLT/CLTA Teacher of the Year (2017). She holds a B.A. in Chinese from Peking University and an M.A. in Educational Technology from San Francisco State University, and serves as Executive Director of CLASS.
